Washington English Center Legacy Society
Just some of our many recently graduated students - thanking you!
The Legacy Society recognizes supporters who have chosen to include Washington English Center in their wills or estate giving plans. Such future gifts help ensure WEC can continue to provide immigrants and refugees with the education and tools need to build a better life for themselves and their children.
Planned gift giving and estate bequests are relatively easy to establish - and to change, should you ever need the assets during your lifetime or if your gift giving goals change.
Estate gifts or bequests may take many forms, to include a defined dollar amount, or gifts of assets like stocks, bonds, real estate, IRAs or life insurance policies. For example, WEC can be the named beneficiary (sole, or one of several beneficiaries) in an Individual Retirement Account.
Estate related cash or asset donations can be given outright. Alternatively, they may take the form of a residuary gift, paid to WEC after other bequests of the estate have been satisfied, or they can be a contingent bequest - a gift given to WEC should the designated beneficiary(ies) predecease you.
Will you consider becoming a Legacy Society member?
The first step is to make a pledge: The next time I consult with my professional advisers regarding my overall financial / estate plan, I will express my intention that WEC be included in my plans as a charitable beneficiary. Even if I don’t know now what form a future gift to WEC might assume—be it big or small—I want to provide a legacy for WEC that aligns with my philanthropic goals, is vetted by my advisers, and makes sense for me and my family.
Members of the Washington English Center Legacy Society will be honored as belonging to a distinguished community of like-minded philanthropists in our Annual Report and recognized at WEC events.

Giving Spotlignt
Joan's grandfather was an immigrant whose schooling ended when he arrived in the US and went to work at age 14. Although he achieved success in business, he keenly felt the lack of formal education. He passed on to his heirs an abiding commitment to helping others climb the educational ladder.
First, Joan became a WEC volunteer teacher and donor. Then, she encouraged her family to give, as well. Today, Joan, her two adult children, and her sister all donate to WEC in different ways. Joan and her sister have donated appreciated shares of stock. Joan's son doubles the value of his donation through his company's matching gift program. And her daughter contribute to Giving Tuesday. Joan is also a member of the Legacy Society—providing for WEC in her will.
Joan (with family)
WEC volunteer and financial supporter since 2009
