The Stephanie Lawson Fund
On February 18, 2024, the WEC community lost a giant. Stephanie Lawson passed away after suffering a stroke. Stephanie touched so many during her years-long association with Washington English Center.
As the granddaughter of Eastern European Jewish immigrants, Stephanie believed strongly in the power of education to help newcomers succeed. In 2007, she joined WEC as a volunteer teacher and went on to touch the lives of countless adult learners in her classrooms over the years.
In 2010, Stephanie joined WEC’s Board of Directors. She served nine years on the Board, three of them as Chair. During that time, she led transformative fundraising and strategic planning initiatives for WEC.
She was also a tireless ambassador for WEC's mission within the local community. So many current volunteers can trace their connections back to Stephanie, either directly or through one of the many friends and neighbors Stephanie recruited into service.
Stephanie and her husband, Gene, were also generous supporters of WEC over the years. Her dedication to our students and to the larger WEC community knew no bounds.
May Stephanie's memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her, as well as to the thousands whose lives were positively impacted by her years of faithful service to WEC.
And may scholarships funded through donations made in Stephanie’s name continue to transform the lives of immigrants and refugee students for many years to come.
